I think that the fear of confrontation and her father are two elements or villians. First, the willingness or the strength to put up with something so wrong and bizarre is a challenge and when your father is involved, it's beyond abnormal. Though never heard, incest does occur in this case with slyvia. Over the course of time, i think her talking about it and actually realizing that this happened even possibly into university, she finally builds enough strength or courage to fight this monster living inside her. Not only is the father the villian here but the entire predicament and the effects add in to the depressive state. It's sad to hear about things like these, but if no one talked about their experiences, many more would go unnoticed and without measures being taken.
